Polarisation effects in low-energy positron–molecule scattering

چکیده
The UK molecular R-matrix method has been adapted to treat positron collisions from polyatomic targets. A simple empirical enhancement factor which corrects for the underestimation of electron–positron polarisation and correlation effects in the calculations performed with the static-plus-polarization model at low scattering energies is presented. Application of this model to positron scattering from carbon dioxide at energies below 8 eV is discussed. Introduction of the enhancement factor improves the integral cross sections significantly and introduces structures in the differential cross sections consistent with other studies. The prospects for a fully ab initio treatment of this problem are discussed. 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Polarisation potentials for positron-molecule collisions: positron-H, scattering
Model polarisation potentials for use in calculating positron-molecule cross sections are often based on approximations in which terms that depend on the sign of the charge of the projectile are neglected. Thus, these potentials do not fully distinguish between electron and positron scattering. The validity of using such potentials for positronH2 collisions is investigated by performing scatter...
متن کاملR-matrix calculations of polarisation effects in low-energy positron-molecule collisions
The study of the interaction of positrons with atoms and molecules has become increasingly popular, because more and more experimental activities have become feasible. Although exchange effects are absent, the polarisation effects, caused by the attractive nature between the positron and the target electrons, make the positron-molecule collisions more difficult to handle than the corresponding ...
متن کاملMeasurement of low energy longitudinal polarised positron beams via a Bhabha polarimeter
The introduction of a longitudinal polarised positron beam in an ee linear collider calls for its polarisation monitoring and measurement at low energies near its production location. Here it is shown that a relatively simple Bhabha scattering polarimeter allows, at energies below 5000 MeV, a more than adequate positron beam longitudinal polarisation measurement by using only the final state el...
متن کاملCalculation of Positron Distribution in the Presence of a Uniform Magnetic Field for the Improvement of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Imaging Using GEANT4 Toolkit
Introduction Range and diffusion of positron-emitting radiopharmaceuticals are important parameters for image resolution in positron emission tomography (PET). In this study, GEANT4 toolkit was applied to study positron diffusion in soft tissues with and without a magnetic field for six commonly used isotopes in PET imaging including 11C, 13N, 15O, 18F, 68Ga, and 82Rb. متن کاملStudy on Low–energy Positron Polarimetry
For the design of the International Linear Collider (ILC) a polarised positron source based on a helical undulator system has been proposed. In order to optimise the positron beam, i.e. to ensure high intensity as well as high degree of polarisation, a measurement of the polarisation close to the positron creation point is envisaged. In this contribution methods to determine the positron polari...
